Noor’s mother was born in Pakistan and immigrated to the United States at the age of five. While she embraced many American customs, she always stayed true to her Islamic values and Pakistani heritage. As she attended weddings and celebrations with her American friends, she admired the tradition of the quiet pause before a speech, followed by a respectful sip of a drink. However, as someone who couldn’t consume alcohol, she missed being able to partake in that moment of celebration.
